Day 2: The Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

An early breakfast prepares you for the highlight of your safari. Head to the park headquarters by 7:30 AM for a safety and conservation briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers. You will be assigned to a habituated gorilla family group based on fitness levels. Enter the dense, misty rainforest led by armed rangers and trackers. The trek can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas' movements. Once you locate the group, enjoy exactly 1 hour observing the silverback, females, and playing juveniles from a safe distance of 7 meters. Return to the lodge for a well-deserved hot shower. Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Entebbe to Bwindi?

The road journey takes approximately 8 to 10 hours. While long, it offers incredible views of the changing Ugandan landscape, terraced hillsides, and local villages.

Can I fly instead of driving this route?

Yes, we can upgrade this to a fly-in safari using scheduled domestic flights from Entebbe to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrips, reducing travel time to about 1.5 hours.

What level of fitness is required for this express trek?

A moderate fitness level is recommended. Terrain inside Bwindi involves steep slopes, thick undergrowth, and muddy paths at high altitudes.

Is a gorilla sighting guaranteed on this short trip?

We maintain a 99% sighting success rate. Trackers go into the forest before your group leaves the headquarters to pinpoint the exact location of the family.

What happens if I cannot complete the hike on foot?

For those with mobility issues, a local sedan chair service ("African Helicopter") carried by four porters can be arranged for an additional $300–$500.
